GENESIS

While walking through Manhattan’s Chelsea Market in June 2016, I took notice of abstract art based on international subway maps. Viewing the designs, I instantly recalled visits to Chicago, London, Berlin and other world cities.

That visceral experience stirred my lifelong interest in music and graphic design to envision an art concept that similarly drew upon shared experience. I saw the potential to transform music notation into abstract visual art that evoked familiar songs and the powerful memories often associated with them. The broad range of music eras and genres, color combinations, and powerful emotions elicited by the designs inspired a brand name: Pop Spectrum.

I am genuinely moved by the visceral responses people have to my designs. People often need a moment or two to decipher what they are seeing. Then comes a nod, a smile—even arms raised in triumph—as they are flooded with memories and emotions associated with songs they hold dear to their hearts. You can literally see them singing it to themselves in their head.

A friend noted how the progression of "notes" from left to right is a unique journey. Since the term also applies to the emotional experience of the beholder, I adopted that term for each finished design: a Journey. Thank you for being a meaningful part of mine.
